The ranking is calculated considering:
-the results obtained by the team (win/lose)
-the score difference
-the strength of the opponent
-the field palyed at (home/away/neutral)
-only games from the present season are included
The points statistic is an estimation of the average point difference a team would obtain if played all other teams ranked. For some sports a logarithmic scale is used. The "points" statistics is sportheory's rating of a team's "value" (or strength), and therefore is the statistic used to rank teams.
Indicates the effect of the home and away condition on the results obtained by the team. A positive home factor indicates the team obtained better results at home. A negative home factor indicates the team obtained better results playing away from home. The results are adjusted for the difficulty of the schedule. The home factor is expressed in points, in the same scale used for the "points" used in the ranking.
A value of 0 indicates that the team has not yet played at least one game at home and one game away.
The offense statistic estimates the expected number of points (or goals) a team will score against an average team.
The defense statistic estimates the expected number of points (or goals) a team will receive from an average team.
Indicates the inconsistency at which the team obtains results. The bigger the number, the more inconsistent, irregular, the team. Calculated for the whole schedule of the team: home, away and neutral games. Regular, consistent teams will have a smaller irregularity number
The schedule statistic is a measure of the strength of the schedule the team has already played. It is the average of the rating of the teams it has already played.
No. The intent of the ranking is to evaluate how teams did in the past, for the season, and not to predict how teams will do in the future.
Find the team in the ranking and then click on the link on its name. You will land in the team's profile. If there is no link on the team's name then you are looking at an old ranking, for which profiles are not available.
Team profiles are only available for the most current ranking (the most current season), they are not available for past (archived) rankings.
The rankings are updated every Sunday between the fourth week in the regular season and the last week in the regular season. Then once again after all the bowl games have been played.
Yes. However, we cap the margin to a maximum of 21 points (if a team wins, or loses, by a margin of 22, or more, we take a margin of 21) and a minimum of 7 points (if a team wins, or loses, by a margin of 6, or less, we take a margin of 7).
To prevent passing too much value for a single game we cap the margin of victory. In 2010 we will use a logarithmic scale.
The rankings are updated every Monday between December and the end of the regular season. Then once again after the national tournament ends.
To prevent passing too much value for a single game with a high score difference the scores are converted to a logarithmic scale.
